Christmas Posadas – December 17–24

From December 17 to 24, Ajijic glows with light and song during the Christmas Posadas. Each night, a neighborhood, family, or chapel organizes a procession that reenacts Mary and Joseph’s search for shelter. With candles, lanterns, and traditional songs, people walk through the streets until they reach the host home, where the symbolic “No room” turns into a warm welcome and the celebration begins. Children break star-shaped piñatas, guests receive goodie bags with fruit and sweets, and everyone shares tamales, buñuelos, fruit punch, and other seasonal dishes. These posadas are genuine community events—not staged shows—where visitors are embraced with real hospitality. On Christmas Eve, the final posada is followed by Midnight Mass, filled with carols and emotion. Stay at Hotel Casa Blanca Ajijic and experience the Christmas Posadas each night, walking among lights, music, and the true spirit of the season.
