New Year’s Parade – January 1

Every January 1, Ajijic welcomes the new year with a spontaneous, creative parade organized by the traditional neighborhoods of Las Seis Esquinas and La Villa. Early in the morning, families and neighbors fill the streets with homemade costumes, dance groups, decorated vehicles, and humorous characters that often parody events from the previous year, politicians, or local situations. The parade runs through the center of town and ends with a big community gathering on the soccer field, where people share tacos, tamales, coffee, and sweet bread while local bands set the mood.
